Another shot from my last trip to the USA.

CONTINUING THE RAILWAY theme of the last few posts, here is a slightly different view of one of the many eastbound container services that I saw on my visit to BNSF’s ‘Transcon’ route in April 2007.

Yes, it’s yet another endless intermodal service crawling up the grade to Cajon Summit, which lies just a few miles north of this point (Cajon Junction). Burlington Northern Santa Fe Dash 9-44CW No. BNSF 4800 is leading, while BNSF 1051, ‘Superfleet’ liveried BNSF 641 and BNSF 5413 all providing assistance. The date was April 19th, 2007.

These trains really do drive home to you the sheer consuming power of the US economy. Every one of the boxes on this train will be packed full of goods from China and the Far East, everything from toys and clothes to white goods and flat-pack furniture. Awesome.
