Time for a long deserved holiday…

Muttenz, Switzerland, is the location for this view of SBB CFF FFS Re 4/4ii No. 11211 as it rushes through the station with the IC771 11.07 Basel SBB to Zurich HBf service on a gorgeous October 12th, 2006. The train is composed of a mix of DB and SBB coaching stock.
IT’S BEEN ALMOST a year now since I last had a break, let alone a holiday of more than a couple of days, so I’m looking forward to Monday, when I jet off to Germany for a week. (edit: So much for that idea, the holiday is off!)
As per usual the amount of research that I have completed can be written on the head of a needle, so I’m probably going to get completely lost and miss out on all the fun stuff that the country has to offer. Still, I won’t really mind if I get some weather as good as I was treated to on my trip to Switzerland in 2006 (a couple of pictures from which illustrate this page).
I was actually supposed to do this trip in February, but work got in the way. It’s still in the way this time, but I’m going on holiday anyway! Having sai that, I might have changed my mind if the German transport unions were still planning their strikes from next Monday, which have now happily been called off. Still, it was a close run thing.
Germany has a lot to offer, so here’s hoping that I capture some of that with my camera.

ERS Railways JT42CWR No. ERS 6604 (named Blue Dart) pulls into Basel Muttenz Yard in northern Switzerland with an intermodal service on October 12th, 2006. Leased from Porterbrook, the locomotive is one of 17 GM-EMD built European specification ‘Class 66s’ to currently be employed by the Dutch freight operator.
