A quick dash across the Atlantic inspired by an upgraded Athearn hopper.
A NICE SURPRISE in Athearn’s recent round of product news was the announcement that the company was going to significantly upgrade its ex-MDC/Roundhouse FMC 4,700 cu. ft. 3-bay covered hopper. With this in mind, here are a few pictures!
The product announcement can be found here. The new model will feature etched metal walkways, new ladder and end detail, wire end and roof grabs, separate brake piping and two styles of outlet gate.
Six paint jobs make up the first run (three numbers each of BN original, BNSF original, CNW, DRGW ’speed lettering’, Klemme Co-op and WP grey) with an MSRP of $24.95 and a planned delivery date of August this year.
