Multiples in Mainz & Mannheim

Old and new DB units.
MORE PROOF THAT I wasn’t just wasting my time floating around Germany photographing exclusively freight trains!
A pair of DB 420 Class EMUs, lead by No. 420 261-0, pull into Mainz-Bischofsheim Bf, Germany, on April 26th, 2008, while working a Hannover Hbf to Weisbaden Hbf service.
These three-car units are now reaching the end of their lives, some having been put into traffic as far back as 1971. These two sets were working for the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), the passenger transport association which controls the S-Bahn Rhein-Main network.
DB Regio No. 425 238-3, a 425 Class four-car EMU of the S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar network, slows as it approaches Mannheim, Germany, on April 27th, 2008 with a S2 train for Kaiserslauten Hbf and Neustadt Hbf.
These aluminium-construction units also come in handy bite-size two-car formations, which are known as the 426 Class. The yellow thing to the right is DB Netz catenary work car No. 704 002-5.

Gareth, will be visiting the Frankfurt area in July and haveheard that Mainz-Bischofsheim is reasonable for freight / photography. Did you spend long there and if so what is it like?
