MORE MULTIPLE UNITS from Germany, this time a pair of two/three-car sets that showcase the latest in lightweight diesel units. I have a couple more even more outlandish examples to sort out, but they will have to wait for another time!

Owned by the City of Osnabrück and Veolia Transport, NordWestBahn is a private operator that runs passenger trains in the north west (Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia) of Germany. With a fleet that consists of both Alstom ‘Lint 41′ and Talbot/Bombardier ‘Talent’ DMUs, it is one of the latter types (No. VT703) that is pictured here on the final few metres of its journey at Bielefeld Hbf, on April 22nd, 2008, with a train from Osnabrück Hbf.

The flat sides and large picture windows immediately marks this out as a ‘Lint’ (Leichter Innovativer Nahverkehrstriebwagen or light innovative rail vehicle) from LHB/Alstom. This is the two-car ‘Lint 41′ (41 metres in length), one of those operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB 648 Class) for services in the Harz-Weser region, south of Hannover, Germany. This is unit No. 648 757-3 at Göttingen on April 24th, 2008, about to work an RB service to Ottbergen
