NEWLY RENUMBERED INTO the Class 56/3 sub-class with a garish purple and yellow paint scheme, Hanson Traction’s No. 56312 (ex-56003) sits at Wansford (Nene Valley Railway), Cambridgeshire, on August 17th, 2008. I’m still hoping that this livery is just for fun and that HT will roll the ‘Grid’ out in a slightly more understated new image before it hits the main line. Note the cowling, fitted to the first 32 Class 56s, has been cut-away.

Railfreight sub-sector livery may have been all but wiped out on the real railway, but the Construction-flavoured version lives on in the form of preserved Class 31/1 No. 31270, named Stratford 1840-2001. The great looking Type 2 is illustrated approaching Wansford station with the 10.43 Yarwell to Peterborough N.V., formed of a rake of four carmine and cream Mk. 1 coaches, on August 17th, 2008.
