More variety from Switzerland in 2006.
NIGHT TIME AT Interlaken, Switzerland, on October 12th, 2006, and BLS Lötschbergbahn Tea 245 Class battery/electric tractor unit No. 245 022-9 is resting in the centre road coupled to a pair of SBB CFF FFS carriages. The latter will no doubt be added to an early morning service to increase the capacity for commuters - a practice that has been wiped out due to cost reasons in the UK. Who knows how long it will continue in Switzerland.
Even the Swiss railway network, which packs in more loco-hauled trains than British railway enthusiast visitors believe could possibly exist in such a small space, is not immune from the dreaded multiple units. The RADBe 500s are the flagship SBB CFF FFS inter-city EMUs and they can be found buzzing over much of northern and west Switzerland. On October 12th, 2006, No. 500 041-9 William Barbey punches its way past the busy marshalling yard at Muttenz, on the final stage of its journey to Basel.
