Indiana Harbor Belt and Norfolk Southern ‘Geeps’.
PICKED OUT BY a quick burst of sunshine during an otherwise mainly cloudy May 30th, 2006, day, Indiana Harbor Belt GP40-2 No. IHB 4013 awaits its next duty at Norpaul Yard, Franklin Park, Illinois. While it isn’t so obvious from the front, the large light mounting plate just visible on the rear of the locomotive illustrates the former Southern Pacific and Union Pacific heritage of this unit.
Lettered GSF for the Georgia Southern & Florida, a Southern Railway subsidiary, Norfolk Southern GP38 No. GSF 2820 switches a train of tank cars at Avondale Yard, North Kansas City, Missouri, on September 22nd, 2002. This locomotive was rebuilt with Dash 2 electronics and a low short hood in October 2005, becoming the NS 5610.
