A pair of colourful German shunter designs.
WITH JUST A small DB logo on the nose declaring its ownership, former 290 Class diesel shunter, now reclassed as a 294 due to being fitted with remote control equipment, No. 294 079-9 (ex-290 079), reverses at Mainz-Bischofsheim, Germany, on April 29th, 2008. These classic MaK-built B-B machines are fitted with MTU MB 12V-652TZ power units developing 809kW (1,084hp).
One of four former Deutsche Reichsbahn 202 Class diesel shunters now in operation with Germany private operator SC Rail Leasing Europe, recoded 203 Class machine No. 90 80 1203 136-7 D-RAR (also ex-Rent-a-Rail Eisenbahn-Service AG) sits atop of a rake of ballast hoppers at Hanau Hauptbahnhof on April 26th, 2008.
