A pair of SBB shunters.
THE ‘SAD EYES’ of the cab of SBB CFF FFS TmIV departmental diesel traction No. 9664 remind me of the front end of the infamous British Crossley-engined Metrovick Co-Bos. The 1971-built diesel hydraulics develop a massive 280kW of power or 375hp which puts them on or around the same as a BR Class 08! Recorded at Erstfeld, Switzerland, on October 16th, 2006.
Built by GEC/Alsthom (now Alstom) with a 920kw power unit, a total of 40 Am 841 diesels were delivered to SBB CFF FFS between 1996-97, and they can mainly be found on trip freight and shunting duties. This is plain red No. 841 015-8, which was helping out on infrastructure work at Lucerne/Luzern, in central Switzerland, on October 15th, 2006 - note the exhaust scrubber on the rear bonnet. This locomotive design has since been adapted by Alstom/Vossloh and forms the basis of the SNCF BB 60000 class of shunters.
