Something very old and something newer.
AMTRAK’S ‘EMPIRE SERVICE’ train 281, the 10.20 New York to Niagra Falls, powers away from the station at Utica, NY., on March 16th, 2005, behind General Electric-built dual-power P32AC-DM No. AMTK 717. There is still snow on the ground, which highlights the bitterly cold conditions that the photograph was taken in.
Elderly SW1 No. JRWX 117 was photographed at the CSX/NS exchange sidings at Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 26th, 2005, in transit from its former owner, the Laurinburg & Southern (owned by the Gulf & Ohio) to Cornelia, Georgia. The stenciled JRWX reporting marks belong to Johnson Railway Services.
