A selection of Swiss restaurant cars.
IS THERE A better set of coaching stock in Europe than SBB CFF FFS’ IC 2000 bi-levels, built by Bombardier (ex-Schindler Waggon and Adtranz) from 1996 onwards? This is restaurant car WRB No. 50 85 88-94 007-4 at Spiez, Switzerland, on October 20th, 2006, forming part of a Basel to Interlaken service. Elvetino is the contractor for SBB’s on-board catering.
Ever since an all-scales Märklin catalogue was thrust into my hands at a young age, I’ve been fascinated by the Swiss restaurant cars which featured a pantograph on top (to supply power when there is no locomotive attached to the train). WRm No. 61 85 88-94 102-0 was photographed at Pratteln, Switzerland, on April 27th, 2008.
Bedecked in Cisalpino’s silver, dark grey and light blue colour scheme, ex-Trentalia Ristorante vehicle (WR) No. 61 83 88-90 108-3 forms part of an Italy-bound service at Airolo, Switzerland, on October 16th, 2006. The train was powered by SBB CFF FFS electrics Nos. 11302 & 11231.
Part of one of SBB CFF FFS’ plush RADBE 500 ICN network multiple units, WRA Restaurant vehicle No. 500 525-1 was photographed at Pratteln, Switzerland, on April 27th, 2008.
