Two shots from East Argentine in 2006.
BUILT FOR THE Penn Central in the summer of 1972 (making it just a few months younger than the photographer), Electro-Motive Division Leasing GP38-2 No. EMDX 781 was on hire to Burlington Northern Santa Fe when it was photographed at East Argentine, Kansas, on May 28th, 2006. The blue/white scheme, while simple and completely logoless, suits the design of the locomotive well.
A comparison of Burlington Northern Santa Fe corporate images at the eastbound fuelling rig at Argentine Yard, Kansas City, Kansas, on May 28th, 2006. On the left, ES44DC No. BNSF 7613 and Norfolk Southern Dash 9-40CW No. NS 9899 prepare to depart with a double-stack intermodal, while on the right, Dash 9-44CW Nos. BNSF 1101 and faded Santa Fe ‘Superfleet’ sister BNSF 632 restart their mixed autorack and intermodal service.
