Kickstarting inspiration for a new 4mm scale layout.

I HAVE TO admit I’m getting quite excited by the prospect of moving into my new flat. While the legal and financial cogs and wheels do their slow machinations, I’m left eagerly anticipating the opportunity that the extra bedroom will give me to be able spread out a little and actually get on with building a new model railway - or railroad.

Bachmann’s long-awaited refurbished ‘37′ is released…

SOME FOUR YEARS after Bachmann released the original refurbished Class 37 model, the retooled version has now arrived and I had my first chance to look at one at the Railex show yesterday. While overall I’m impressed with the improvements, one aspect of the new locomotive looks decidedly worrying. See the picture above and see what you think.

After nearly 30 years, Hornby is again producing a ‘King Arthur’.

WHAT AM I doing? As a committed diesel era modeller I shouldn’t be wasting my hard earned on steam locomotives. The thing is though, I have a good reason for splashing out on Hornby’s latest ‘kettle’, which is based on the much loved Southern Railway N15 4-6-0 ‘King Arthur’ class; last listed as part of the Margate-based firm’s range in 1978.

One of Hornby’s new Skaledale releases made me smile.

ONE OF MY not so secret long term ambitions is to escape the bricks ‘n’ mortar rat race and purchase a narrowboat shell to fit out myself. However, that’s not going to be happening tomorrow, so in the short to medium term, while I save the required amount, the above is just going to have to satisfy my fascination.
