Intermountain’s new ‘early’ Hyundai 53-footer is here.

IF YOU’RE INTO modelling modern US intermodal operations you can never have enough 53ft domestic containers. Intermountain has been a strong supporter of this side of the hobby and after a maddening delay (but not as frustrating as the wait for its Gunderson Maxi-IV wells!), its very useful early-style Hyundai containers are now available, following hot on the heels of the ‘late’ version released a couple of months back.

FOR TODAY’S UPDATE, Wagons on the Web’s attention moves to the massive 20-2 tri-level autoracks that can be found plying North American rails. Never as common as their normal-sized counterparts, they can make for a striking sight when marshalled within a rake of standard height racks.

A mish-mash of Tope engineer’s wagons.

FOLLOWING THE SELECTION of ZBA ‘Rudd’ wagons posted the other day, here is an earlier batch of shots of their sister ZCV ‘Tope’ engineer’s vehicles. These kept their original - albeit rebodied in the 1970s - bodywork, which was reduced in height by a few inches.

INTRODUCED IN THE late 1980s, around 2,500 Clam, Rudd and Tope engineer’s wagons were rebuilt for BR by Marcroft Engineering and CC Crump using redundant HTV 21-ton mineral hoppers.
