This TOPS code was reorganised in 1989. Bogie PO vehicles were give a new Jxx TOPS code, while both 2-axle and Bogie Special vehicles were given a new Kxx TOPS code. The remaining 2-axle PO vehicles were given more representative codes within the P series. Recoding of wagons was a slow process and still even today, odd wagons in the J/K/P series can be seen sporting their original Pxx code.
