East Anglian ‘EDs’

A pair of Class 73s in action deep in the heart of Norfolk!
NOW A MEMBER of the Mid-Norfolk Railway home fleet, ex-Southern Region and Gatwick Express Class 73/2 electro-diesel No. 73210 Selhurst was far away from 750V dc territory when it was photographed thumping along in partnership with the Class 73 Preservation Society’s No. 73136 Perseverance just north of Yaxham on September 27th, 2008, with the 17.35 Thruxton-Dereham. This was the final train of what was an exceptionally good first day’s English Electric gala weekend.
An even stranger sight than the GWR ‘Pannier’ tank engine that visited the Mid-Norfolk Railway previously, late-September’s English Electric gala saw not one but two Class 73 electro-diesels making their way to deepest darkest Norfolk for the event! No. 73136 Perseverance was on loan from the Class 73 Preservation Society, while No. 73210 Selhurst becomes the latest addition to the MNR’s home fleet. With their EE 4SRKT Mk II power units thumping in good fashion, the ‘EDs’ roll through Hardingham on September 27th, 2008, with the 13.00 Dereham-Wymondham Abbey.
